The Auburn Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season with their second home blowout of the season in a 45-13 win over Samford on Saturday. The Tigers bounced back after a close 14-10 road win over Cal the week earlier and now prepare for SEC play beginning this weekend against the Aggies at Texas A&M.

“I thought he played really solid,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said. “We've got to get more confidence in us being a balanced offense and that was a goal. He ran when he needed to, we called some good draws with him and he looked natural at it.”

Quarterback Payton Thorne was the offense star of the game for the Tigers as the dual-threat quarterback rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns and finished 24-of-32 through the air for 282 yards and another score. In all, Thorne compiled 405 yards of the Tigers' 562 yards of total offense. Wide receiver Jay Fair led Auburn with 93 yards on seven receptions in the game. The 45-point outburst represented the second straight home game in which Auburn scored over 40 points.

On the defensive end, the Tigers held Samford to 218 yards of total offense including just 74 yards on the ground. Caleb Wooden led the way with a team-high six tackles in the victory. The Tigers had seven tackles for loss in the game including one sack. They also recorded two interceptions and held Samford to 5-of-14 on third down conversions.

Auburn comes into their SEC opener with the a perfect record but an imperfect offense. Thus far, through three games, the Tigers' offense has relied heavily on the run. Auburn is 70th overall in the country in total offense. They are an impressive 12th in rushing offense but just 115th through the air. Thorne's ability to keep the A&M defense off-balance will be critical on Saturday. On the defensive end, the Tigers have been impressive thus far. They are ranked 19th overall in total defense. The Tigers are 55th against the run thus far and 17th against the pass. That latter number will be tested against the Aggies' highly successful passing attack.

Auburn is ranked 33rd in the nation thus far in turnover differential at a +.5. They haven't hurt themselves significantly with penalties, ranking 54th in the nation. Auburn will have to be near error free on Saturday at College Station in order to stay ahead of the sticks and utilize their rushing attack.

Injury Report: DB Keionte Scott (ankle) is out. OL Kam Stutts, OL Izavion Miller, TE Luke Deal, LB Jalen McLeod, WR Ja'Varrius Johnson, DB Nehemiah Pritchett and DB Donovan Kaufman are all questionable.
