Colorado Rockies vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-4-2022

Following yesterday's rainout, the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds will play a pair of The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon. In the opening matchup, the Rockies will send right-hander German Marquez (7-10, 4.97) to the hill to take on the Reds rookie left-hander Nick Lodolo (3-5, 4.30). The first pitch for the doubleheader opener is set for 12:10pm EST.

Colorados is far removed from the playoff picture in 2022 and have really struggled as of late, losing seven out of their last ten games. The Rockies sit comfortably in last place in the NL West Division and will likely be able to stockpile their farm system with excellent draft position in the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft. On Friday night, in the series opener with the Reds, the Rockies fell 3-2 against the Reds. Not even a five-man infield in the bottom of the 9th inning could prevent a chopping ground ball from bringing home the winning run against the Rockies on this night. The loss typified the Rockies season; a harmless chopper just out of their reach. The Rockies have had 24 hours to think about the near-win and will hope for better results in today's doubleheader.

In their last ten games, the Rockies offense has sunk to new lows as the team is hitting just .225 over that span and scoring a paltry 2.6 runs per game. Taking the hill in Sunday's opener will be right-hander German Marquez. Marquez has been relatively sharp in his last five starts, posting an ERA of 3.77 and a record of 1-1. In that span, he has thown 31 innings and allowed 28 hits and struck out 25 batters. He has yet to face the Reds this season but was 1-1 against Cincinnati in 2021.
