Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-4-2022

The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers, two cellar dwellers in the AL Central Division, wrap-up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon in Detroit. The two teams are well out of the AL playoff picture with each team taking some long looks at their up and coming players. The Royals will give the ball to right-hander Maximo Castillo (0-1, 1.80) while the Tigers will turn to right-hander Matt Manning (1-2, 3.79). First pitch is scheduled for 1:40pm EST.

The Royals continue their late season auditions of this young roster as they battle the equally inept Detroit Tigers in Detroit. KC has lost five of their last seven games heading into Saturday night's matchup with the Tigers. The offense has been sporadic, scoring just 15 total runs in the five losses while pumping in 26 runs in their two wins. On Saturday night, the Royals offense came alive to trounce the Tigers 12-2. KC had 15 hits on the night including five extra base hits in the win.

The Royals pitching staff, save for veteran Zack Greinke, is young and has promise. The likes of Daniel Lynch, Kris Bubic and, particularly, Brady Singer give the Royals a potential imposing rotation for the coming years. The Royals will test out another youngster on Sunday in 23-year old Maximo Castillo. He will be making just his second start for the Royals and will likely be used to get the club to the middle innings. KC will push back Singer for an extra day of rest so Castillo is being given the spot start. In 11 appearances this season, mostly out of the bullpen with Toronto, he has averaged 2.1 innings of work and 2.3 strikeouts per appearance.
