Liberty at Southern Miss – 9/3/22 College Football Picks and Prediction

The Liberty Flames will play the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in a non-conference game on Saturday night at M. M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The Liberty Flames were 8-5 last season and defeated Eastern Michigan in the LendingTree Bowl by a score of 56-20. Liberty had a solid season, but did lose their last three regular season games before the Bowl game. Liberty did lose Malik Willis, which will be a big loss for them this season. The Flames hope to replace him with Charlie Brewer, who is on his third team. Other than losing Willis, Liberty is bringing back a good portion of their offense, which should be pretty good. On defense, Liberty was solid last season and should be even better this season. Overall, Liberty should build on their eight-win season from last year and may do even better this year.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles were 3-9 last season, but did win their last two regular season games. Southern Mississippi started the 2021 season not playing well and didn’t beat an FBS team until November 19th. The Southern Mississippi offense was terrible in 2021, but they do return a decent amount of starters. The offensive line needs to be a lot better if they want to have a chance to win more games this season. On defense, Southern Miss wasn’t horrible last year and should be better this season. Southern Miss should be better than they were last year, but the offensive line must improve.
