Memphis at Mississippi State – 9/3/22 College Football Picks and Prediction

The Memphis Tigers will play the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a non-conference game at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday night.

The Memphis Tigers were 6-6 last season and ended their season with a cancellation of the Hawaii Bowl. Memphis started the season 3-0 with an impressive win over Mississippi State, but finished the season a disappointing 3-6. Memphis really struggled to run the ball in 2021 and will need to get this going to be successful this year. The Tigers do bring in a new offensive coordinator, so expect an emphasis on the run game early. Defensively, Memphis was not good last season and really needs to improve yards per game and points per game. Memphis does return their quarterback, but overall there are a lot of question marks around this team.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs were 7-6 last year and got blown out in the Liberty Bowl by a score of 34-7 against Texas Tech. Mississippi State was pretty inconsistent last season, which meant you never knew which team would show up. Mississippi State returns a lot of starters on offense, which is a great sign considering how great they looked at times last year. Quarterback Will Rogers will be the focal point of the offense, since they virtually have no run game. The Bulldogs do lose some good receiving talent, but the offense should be solid. On defense, Mississippi State had a good season last year and should be even better in this campaign. Mississippi State should be very competitive this year.
