Houston at UTSA 9/3/22 College Football Picks and Prediction

The Houston Cougars and UTSA Roadrunners face off on Saturday in a Week 1 college football showdown at Alamodome.

Houston finished last year with a 12-2 record overall and they hope to build on that here. There are some that believe that Houston could be the Cincinnati of last year, and maybe sneak their way into the college football playoffs. Coming back for Houston is Quarterback Clayton Tune who completed 68 percent of his passes last season for 39 touchdowns and only six interceptions. His top target is Nathaniel Dell who finished last season with 12 touchdowns. Houston will be without their top running back Alton McCaskill who tore his ACL during the offseason. The defense lost some key pieces, but they also have plenty back for what was the top-ranked defense in the AAC. Gervarrius Owens is back in the secondary and will be leaned on heavily this season.

On the other side of this matchup is the UTSA Roadrunners who finished last season with a 12-2 record overall, and this is quickly becoming an elite program. The offense will get back eight starters from last year, and they like to play a smashmouth style of football. Running back Sincere McCormick was the top player on offense last year, but he is now getting ready to play football on Sunday’s with the Las Vegas Raiders. Quarterback Frank Harris is back though and last season he threw for 27 touchdowns. On defense, they aren’t great against the pass, but the defense was great against the run.
