The Detroit Tigers are not quite playoff-worthy yet but they have shown signs of improvement in 2023. The team has allowed some of its young up-and-coming players to get experience and the rotation seems to be taking shape. The Tigers ably battled the first-place Twins heading into this series including three straight wins after a series-opening loss. On Friday night against the Red Sox, the Tigers fell 5-2 after getting just two hits in the game in total.

The Tigers will turn to one of their young starters, righty Matt Manning, in game two against the Red Sox on Saturday. Manning is 3-4 in 10 starts this season including one quality start. He has allowed 49 hits in 53.1 innings pitched and has an ERA of 5.06. In his last five starts, Manning is 0-4 with a 6.66 ERA and has allowed 29 hits in just 24.1 innings pitched. In addition, Manning has coughed up six home runs in that span. This will be his first visit to Fenway Park in his career and his first-ever start against the Red Sox.
