Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-11-2023

Colorado Rockies (45-69) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (67-46)

The 2023 Major League Baseball season goes on Friday, August 11, with the Colorado Rockies taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West showdown at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and the first pitch is set for 10:10 PM ET.

The Rockies and Dodgers continue a four-game set in LA with Game 2, and Thursday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Dodgers are listed as massive -295 moneyline favorites for Friday night, while the totals sit at 9.0 runs.

The Colorado Rockies fell to 45-69 on the season following Wednesday’s 7-6 ten-inning defeat at the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rocks dropped a three-game set in Wisconsin, winning the middle contest 7-3 in ten innings and suffering a heavy 12-1 loss in the opener. They’ve gone 5-5 over their previous ten games overall.

The Rockies are slashing just .228/.296/.363 with 25 doubles and ten home runs in the past two weeks and 408 at-bats. Their pitching staff has been pretty much awful during that span, compiling a 5.63 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and .297 batting average against.

Austin Gomber will get the starting call Friday in LA, and the 29-year-old left-hander is 9-8 with a pedestrian 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 79/35 K/BB ra tio in 23 starts (120 innings pitched) this season. Gomber has done an excellent job for the Rockies as of late, pitching six or more innings in each of his previous seven starts. During that stretch, Gomber has registered a strong 2.51 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and .668 opposing OPS. Last Sunday, he tossed six scoreless frames in a 1-0 home win against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Gomber will face off against the Dodgers for the first time in 2023. He’s 0-2 with an ugly 6.14 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in five career starts and one relief appearance against the Blue Crew.
