Texas Rangers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-28-2023

The Texas Rangers (60-43, 61-42 RL, 53-41-9 O/U) clash with the San Diego Padres (49-54, 50-53 RL 42-55-6 O/U) in an interleague bout on Friday evening. The Rangers will have Dane Dunning on the mound. The Padres will respond with veteran Joe Musgrove. These squads last met in 2021.

The Rangers will have Dane Dunning on the rubber. Dunning had one of his worst outings of the season last time out, squandering five runs including two home runs in three innings against the Dodgers, and was charged with the loss. The veteran right-hander has struggled in two of his last three starts but is having the best season of his career, registering a 3.18 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP accompanied by an 8-3 record in 102 innings. Dunning has allowed three homers in his last three starts. This is his first meeting against the Padres.

Texas dropped a home series to the Dodgers last weekend and followed by losing two of three road meetings against the Astros this week despite scoring 25 runs. The pitching has not been quite as sharp. The lead atop the division has dipped to only two games. They are now 5-5 in their last ten decisions.

Ezequiel Duran is having an outstanding season. The 24-year-old shortstop is in his first full season in the big leagues and has 13 homers with 38 RBIs and an .831 OPS. He has cooled down recently, posting a .530 OPS in July. Corey Seager was placed on the IL last weekend which is a big loss.

Texas leads the Major Leagues with 5.87 runs per game. The pitching is mediocre, recording a 4.19 team ERA, placing them 15th.
