Washington snapped a two-game slide and won for the fourth time in six games as they took the opening game of this set Monday night. The Nationals entered Tuesday 38-56 and were in the basement of the NL East, 24 games behind the Braves for the top spot in the division. They were 14 games behind the Marlins for the final wild card spot in the National League. On Monday night, Kelbert Ruiz (two runs, two RBI) and Stone Garrett (two runs) each had three hits while Jeimer Candelario (two runs, two RBI) added two in the win. Candelario (his 14th) and Ruiz (his 11th) each homered in the contest. MacKenzie Gore (5-7) earned the win as he threw 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Kyle Finnegan worked the final 1.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and three strikeouts, to earn his 12th save.
