Only one team can win the national title, but four programs will have the honors of reaching the College Football Playoff. Read on as we track the 2024 CFP market based on our best college football odds.
Since college football moved to a four-team playoff format during the 2014-15 season, 14 different teams have made at least one College Football Playoff appearance. Alabama leads the way with seven trips even after missing out last year, followed by Clemson (six), Ohio State (five), and Oklahoma (four) across the past nine seasons.
It's safe to say that the elite programs typically have the best chance of reaching the CFP, though TCU and Cincinnati have proven surprise runs are possible over the last two years. Will we get one more Cinderella season before the CFP expands to 12 teams next year?
Georgia is the betting favorite to reach the Col lege Football Playoff for the third year in a row after back-to-back championship seasons. Ohio State and Michigan have strong odds of returning to the CFP after making it last year, as well.

College Football Playoff betting analysis
This market isn't available at all of our best sports betting sites, so shopping around for the best value is pretty easy. In this case, FanDuel offers the best price on a majority of the top CFP contenders.
DraftKings has the best value on USC, but does not have Alabama listed in a market that only features about 20 teams. It should be noted that DraftKings does have a no option for all of its listed programs, which should offer better value for bettors.
College Football Playoff odds movement
This market is new, so it has had minimal movement as of this writing. Expect these odds to change throughout the summer as everyone prepares for the 2023-24 college football season.
College Football Playoff odds: Favorite
The Bulldogs rank fifth with just three CFP appearances in program history, but they know how to cash in on their trips. Georgia lost to Alabama in an epic 2017 championship game, but became the first back-to-back champion in the CFP era over these last two years.
College football hasn't seen a three-peat since Minnesota did so in the 1930s, but Kirby Smart's Bulldogs are loaded on both sides of the ball once again. Georgia is the deserving national championship odds favorite entering the year, and the new king of the sport.
Still, I have a tough time suggesting a -210 play for any team playing in the SEC.
College Football Playoff odds 2024: Contender
The Buckeyes nearly knocked off the Bulldogs during last year's semifinal showdown before a walk-off field goal sealed their fate in a 42-41 thriller. That game proved to be the national championship, as Georgia rolled over TCU.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud might be gone, but Ohio State has the best receiver room in the country to help keep this offense humming along. The Buckeyes have also made enough strides defensively to be viewed as a serious contender.
Ohio State won it all to kick off the CFP era in 2014, but this team has failed to get out of the semifinal round in three of its last four playoff seasons. Perhaps Ryan Day's squad can finally get over the hump this year, and give us an entertaining title game.
College Football Playoff odds 2024: Long shot
North Carolina is one of the few teams that has better odds at DraftKings than FanDuel to make the CFP. This 22/1 pri ce tag is the longest odds among any teams that DK has listed, which is a bargain compared to FanDuel's 18/1 offering on the Tar Heels.
The Tar Heels do have one of the more talented quarterbacks in the country leading the way, Drake Maye, which seems like a good start to picking a surprise run in 2024. Maye is actually listed as short at 14/1 to win the Heisman, so this could be a better way to make that same bet, as Heisman winners have typically come from teams that make the CFP.
Most of all, North Carolina has a favorable schedule with toss-up matchups against Pittsburgh, Miami, and NC State that could be the difference in winning double-digit games. If those games do go in the Tar Heels' favor, they could be a road upset over Clemson away from a truly special season.
College Football Playoff odds 2024: Fade
Until proven otherwise, Texas is not back. No matter how bad the best sportsbooks try to convince us by pricing the Longhorns as a contender in these markets.
Texas has just one double-digit win season since 2010, and even that year was just a 10-4 clip in 2018. The Longhorns are 13-12 over the last two seasons during the Steve Sarkisian era, so I'm comfortable fading them as long as they are priced like a top-six team.
