Cubs Being Cautious With Willson Contreras Following Latest Injury Update

After surviving another trade deadline without being traded away from the Chicago Cubs, star catcher Willson Contreras seems destined to find a way to remain on the north side of Chicago next season and beyond. His mindset around his latest injury further supports that notion.

Willson Contreras Injury Update

Contreras left Tuesday's game early due to soreness he's been experiencing in his left ankle. He has been catching on one foot lately to limit the pain when he's behind the plate, but he decided it was best for him and the team to take a break and not push the injury any further.

We don't know how long this will keep Contreras on the shelf. It might only be something that is a day-to-day injury, or it could be something that is worse than he realizes. Both he and the club are hoping for the former, as he's been one of the Cubs' best hitters this season with 21 home runs, 54 RBIs, and an .822 OPS.

It's encouraging that Contreras himself didn't appear too concerned by the injury and seemed to be taking a cautionary approach. With the three-time All-Star heading to free agency this winter, keeping him healthy is a top concern for both him and the team if they hope to have a fruitful future together.
