Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 6-10-2023

The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants will play Saturday at Oracle Park. First pitch is at 4:35 p.m. PT.

Chicago (26-36 SU and 32-30 RL) is starting righty Kyle Hendricks. The 33-year-old is 0-2 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his three outings this year.

San Francisco (32-30 SU and 31-31 RL) has not named an official starter and bettors should expect a bullpen day. A potential starting candidate is John Brebbia, who made the start during the last turn of the rotation after Anthony DeSclafani, who pitches Friday.

The Cubbies are fading in the NL Central race, falling ten games under .500 following a four-game losing streak. At times, they've looked the part of contenders but even in a weak division, they've failed to stand out. Can Chicago's current roster make a push for a playoff spot?

The Cubs score 4.26 runs per game (21st) and hit .245 (18th) with a .721 OPS (18th). They have recorded 70 homers (14th) and 46 stolen bases (12th) this year. The Chicago pitching staff sports a 4.16 ERA (14th) and a 1.28 WHIP (15th) with 27 quality starts.

Hendricks will get the start for the visitors on Saturday at Oracle Park. The veteran right-hander returned from a shoulder injury on May 25 against the New York Mets, surrendering five runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings. He held Tampa Bay to one run in five innings in his next start and surrendered four runs in six innings vs. San Diego in his most recent outing. A ten-year vet, Hendricks has a 12:5 K:BB ratio this season.
