Milwaukee Brewers vs. Tampa Bay Rays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-21-2023

The Milwaukee Brewers (24-20, 21-23 RL, 19-24-1 O/U) meet with the Tampa Bay Rays (33-13, 27-19 RL, 25-18-3 O/U) in the three-game series finale on Sunday afternoon from the Trop. The Brewers will give the nod to Freddy Peralta. The Rays have yet to name a starter. The Rays earned a 1-0 victory on Friday evening.

Freddy Peralta will get the nod for the ninth time of the season on Sunday. Peralta is looking to rebound from his worst outing of the season, giving up six runs due primarily to five walks in 5.1 innings against the Cardinals, and was charged with the loss. The veteran right-hander has been solid recently, conceding two or fewer runs in three of his last four outings, and has registered a 4.11 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP complimented by a 4-3 record in 46 innings on the season. Peralta allowed two runs in five innings in his only career meeting against the Rays. 

The Brewers are glad to be concluding a six-game road trek. They were dealt a series loss by the Cardinals this week. They were outscored by a huge 23-4 margin. The Brewers have been inconsistent at the dish on the road this season. They have scored three or fewer runs in four straight road games en tering Saturday.

Joey Wiemer is one of the Brewers' top prospects and is getting plenty of playing time but has yet to click. The 24-year-old homered in a win against the Cards earlier this week but only has 13 RBIs and a .627 OPS in 43 games played on the season. Christian Yelich was dealing with a back injury and is back in the lineup.

Milwaukee is stumbling at the plate and is only averaging 4.16 runs on the year, ranking them 23rd. The pitching staff has yielded a 3.95 team ERA, good for 10th.
