Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-14-2023

The Detroit Tigers (17-20) will wrap up a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners (19-19) on Sunday in Detroit. The Mariners won the first game 9-2 Friday night, and Saturday's game was not complete at the time of this preview.

The Seattle Mariners came into the season hoping to be contenders in the American League. Although the Mariners may end the season, the product on the field has been mediocre so far. Fortunately, the Mariners have picked up some momentum lately, winning eight of their last 11 games heading into Saturday.

On Sunday, the Mariners will be starting Logan Gilbert (1-2, 3.79 ERA), who is in his third big league season.  The 6'6 right-hander was 13-6 with a 3.20 ERA last year. Gilbert did face the Tigers at Comerica Park last season and tossed six scoreless innings of two-hit ball and recorded nine strikeouts.

The Seattle offense is 17th averaging 4.4 runs per game on the road this season, and the defense is fifth with 13 runs saved this season. Overall the Mariners are 9-7 on the road. Seattle's 22-year-old sensation Julio Rodriguez led the charge on Friday night, going 3 for 5 with two runs scored, a home run, and four RBI, lifting his batting average from .205 to .219.
