Notre Dame ranked 20th in scoring (35.2 points per game) and 15th in scoring defense in a 2021 season that saw it go 11-2. ND lost to Cincinnati in the regular season and Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. The Irish open this season with a new coach as former Ohio State LB Marcus Freeman takes over for Brian Kelly, who led ND from 2010-21 before leaving for LSU.
