Seattle Mariners (10-12) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (11-12)

The 2023 Major League Baseball Season continues in the fifth week of the season as the Seattle Mariners take on the Philadelphia Phillies in this interleague clash at the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Philadelphia enters as the favorite (-130) with the total set at 8.5.

This is the second game of the series between the clubs. The teams played on Tuesday, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest. The clubs last met in May of last year when Philadelphia won two of the three games in Seattle. The Phillies are 6-4 in the last 10 meetings.

The Seattle Mariners lost to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, 7-3, but still took two of the three games in the series. The Mariners are coming off a nine-game homestand where the club went 5-4, but now head to the road where they are 3-3 this season. Seattle enters Tuesday night’s game in fourth place in the AL West.

Seattle took a one-run lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second, but St. Louis responded with a run in the third and added three more in the fourth to take command of this game. Chris Flexen allowed six runs on nine hits in four innings of work. The Mariners will hope to get a better performance out of Logan Gilbert, who is 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in four starts. Gilbert allowed four runs in six innings in his last outing but had allowed five to tal runs through his first 16.2 innings. The Mariners starting rotation has a 3.90 ERA over their last 10 games while the bullpen is at 2.62 during that span.

Jarred Kelenic hit his sixth home run of the season in the loss. The outfielder is hitting .319 with 10 runs scored and 13 RBI. Seattle is struggling offensively of late, hitting .213 as a team over their last 10 games, but are scoring 4.55 runs per game on average. They are hitting .250 on the road, averaging 4.66 runs per game.
