Miami Marlins vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-22-2023

Following a postponement of game one on Friday night, the second game of this series is now the second part of a doubleheader. It appears that both the visiting Miami Marlins (10-9) and host Cleveland Guardians (10-9) will use Friday night's projected starters for the second game. This is the first series between these clubs since 2019. There's potential for more rain on Saturday, but hopefully, it'll pass. Pending weather, Progressive Field will host the second game of the doubleheader, probably beginning around 6:40 EDT.

Luis Arraez is batting .438 and has only struck out four times this season. Jorge Soler has a .633 slugging percentage. Garrett Cooper owns a .313 batting average and is tied with Soler for the team lead in RBIs with 10. Jazz Chisholm has three long balls and six stolen bases. Yet, the team only has 59 runs for the season entering this series, an average of 3.1 per game. As well as those guys bat on their own, the team is not hitting as a unit.

The bullpen hasn't been great either, ranking bottom 10 in both FIP and WAR before the doubleheader. The starting rotation is 12th in WAR though, led by the otherworldly Sandy Alcantara, so the team's collective pitching numbers are solid. Considering the offense has the fewest runs in the game, pitching can't be blamed for Miami's -26 run differential.

When Braxton Garrett takes the mound, he'll be hoping to cut down on the hits allowed. He's pitched 13.1 innings this season and already allowed 19 hits. Otherwise, he's only walked two, given up one homer, and surrendered five runs. Of his three appearances, the previous two were starts, and he didn't allow more than two runs in either. The Marlins walked away victorious in both of those starts.
