The Seattle Kraken are on the road as they play Game 1 of their best-of-seven series with the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday night. Seattle closed the regular season with a 3-1 home loss to the Golden Knights Thursday night in their previous game. Colorado earned a 4-3 road win over Nashville in their regular season finale Friday night, clinching the Central Division title in the process. In the all-time series between the teams, each team has won three times, with the Kraken winning 3-2 in overtime on the road in the most recent matchup on March 5.

Seattle dropped their final two games of the regular season as they were beaten twice by the Golden Knights but the team made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history in just their second year of existence. The Kraken finished the regular season 46-28-8 and finished fourth in the Pacific Division while earning the top wild card spot. Seattle finished the regular season tied for 4th in the league in goals for at 3.52 goals per contest on the season. The Kraken were tied for 14th in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 3.07 goals per game this season. Seattle was tied for 19th in power play success as they cash in on 19.8% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Kraken are 21st in penalty kill rate to this point of the season as they have gotten through 76.7% of their shorthanded situations successfully.

In their r egular season finale against the Golden Knights, Seattle couldn’t get their offense going and that sent them to defeat. The Kraken held a 13-5 edge in shots on goal in the opening period but skated off even at one after 20 minutes of play. After falling behind 1-0, Jaden Schwartz tied the game with his 21st goal of the season at 16:50 with the assists going to Alex Wennberg and Morgan Geekie. Seattle held a 12-9 edge in shots on goal in the second period but they were outscored 1-0 to trail 2-1 after 40 minutes of play. The final period saw the Kraken with a 6-5 shot advantage but they gave up the lone goal of the stanza to seal their defeat. Philipp Grubauer made 16 saves for Seattle, who held a 31-19 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. He is expected to get the start between the pipes for this contest.
