These were two of the best defensive teams in the league this season. The Rangers allowed 2.63 goals per game (fourth-best) while the Devils weren't too far behind at 2.71 (eighth-best).
The Devils actually had a better expected goals against per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 this season (2.42) than the Rangers (2.64) but New York made up for that with Igor Shesterkin in net.
