San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-15-2023

The San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers continue their three-game weekend series in Detroit on Saturday afternoon. The Giants have started slowly as they try to rebound from a subpar season in 2022. The Tigers are once again at the bottom of the standings in the AL Central Division as they continue a slow rebuild toward respectability. The pitching matchup on Saturday afternoon will feature Giants' right-hander Anthony Desclafani (1-0, 0.73) vs. Tigers' lefty Matthew Boyd (0-1, 4.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM EST.

It has been a slow start for the Giants this season and they hope to turn it around soon or face the possibility of missing the playoffs for the second straight year after winning the NL West Division with a team record 107 wins in 2021. Thus far, the Giants have gotten inconsistent pitching with the team allowing five or more runs in six of their losses this season. On Friday night in Detroit, J.D. Davis hit a three-run home run in the 8th-inning to tie the game at 4 apiece and LaMonte Wade Jr. singled home the go-ahead run in the 11th and the Giants looked to be on the way to a win. Reliever Camilo Doval was then one out away from victory before coughing up a 3-run home run on a 3-0 count to send the Giants to a 7-5 loss.

The Giants will turn to Anthony Desclafani to pick them on Saturday afternoon. Desclafani has been strong to start the season at 1-0 with an ERA of 0.73 in two starts. In his brief stint with the big club last season, Desclafani made three starts on the road last year. He was 0-1 with an ERA of 8.53 in those three starts. He allowed 20 hits in just 12.2 innings pitched and gave up four home runs in those outings. Thus far this season, Desclafani has looked far more in command on the hill.

Key Injuries: Outfielders Bryce Johnson, Michael Conforto, Mitch Haniger and Austin Slater are all out.
