Colorado Rockies (5-8) vs. Seattle Mariners (5-8)
The 2023 MLB season goes on Friday, April 14, with the Colorado Rockies taking on the Seattle Mariners in the interleague showdown at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, and the first pitch is set for 10:10 PM ET.
Colorado and Seattle start a three-game series. The Mariners open as -169 moneyline favorites, while the totals are listed at 8.0 runs. Seattle and Colorado lock horns for the first time since 2021 when they split a four-game regular-season set.
The Colorado Rockies are coming off a three-game home series against the St. Louis Cardinals. After a 7-4 victory in the opener, the Rockies have dropped two straight contests, 9-6 and 7-4. Last Wednesday, Colorado tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, but Nolan Gorman’s two-run homer in the top of the eighth made a difference.
The Rockies rank 19th in the majors in runs scored (4.46 per game) while slashing .271/.320/.430. They’ve slugged 14 home runs (tied-14th in the MLB) and 29 doubles (tied-4th) thus far. On the other side of the ball, the Rockies are yielding 5.77 runs per game (27 th). Their bullpen owns an awful 5.66 ERA.

Austin Gomber will get the starting call Friday, and the 29-year-old left-hander has gone 0-2 with a hideous 6.75 ERA and a decent 1.22 WHIP over his first two outings in 2023. Gomber yielded three earned runs across six frames in a 3-1 defeat at the San Diego Padres and five earned runs on seven hits through 4.2 innings of work in a 7-6 loss to the Washington Nationals.
Last year, Gomber went 5-7 with a 5.56 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts and 16 relief appearances (124.2 innings pitched). He met the Mariners once in 2021 and took a win while surrendering three earned runs over six innings.
