CJ Stroud favored to go second overall on April 27

The decision on what the Houston Texans should do with the second pick in the 2023 NFL Draft should be an easy one. Houston is in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, and this draft class boasts quite a few that have the potential to turn into that. And with the Carolina Panthers leaning towards drafting Bryce Young first, the decision might be made for the Texans. 

It does, however, seem like Houston is at least entertaining the possibility of drafting a defensive player. After all, the Texans hired a defensive-minded head coach in DeMeco Ryans, and the team is meeting with some of the top defensive prospects in this class. So, you really can’t rule anything out at this point.

CJ Stroud -220
Bryce Young +225
Will Anderson +350
Tyree Wilson +700

?The only reason Young is a plus-money play to be the second pick is because it’s highly unlikely he’ll be available for Houston. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that there are two defensive players listed here. Perhaps Ryans is pushing for a player that can anchor his defense right off the bat. And our very own Michael Lombardi isn’t exactly sold on Stroud being the right pick for the Texans.
