San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-6-2023

The San Diego Padres (3-3, 3-3 RL, 4-2 O/U) collide with the Atlanta Braves (5-1, 5-1 RL, 2-4 O/U) in the first of a four-game NL series on Thursday evening. The Padres will have veteran Blake Snell on the hill. The Braves will counter with Spencer Strider. San Diego posted a 4-3 record against Atlanta last season.

Blake Snell will make his second outing of the season to begin the series. Snell wasn’t at his best in his season debut, conceding three runs in just 4.1 innings against the Rockies but did collect 9 K’s in a 7-2 defeat. The veteran southpaw had one of the better seasons of his career last year, reporting a 3.38 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP accompanied by an 8-10 record in 128 innings of action. That 3.38 ERA marked the third-best of his career. Snell did not pitch against the Braves last season and allowed only one run in 6.1 innings in his lone career meeting against them.

San Diego started the season with two defeats to the Rockies but quickly rebounded by winning three consecutive games propelled by strong pitching. They earned one win in two games against the Diamondbacks this week after an 8-6 loss on Tuesday. Their first two opponents are not contenders and this series marks their first real challenge and is also their first road game of the season.

Manny Machado was productive against the Braves last season, posting a .308 average with an .819 OPS. It’s been a bit of a sluggish start for the 30-year-old slugger, posting a .250 average with zero homers, three RBIs, and a poor .523 OPS. Fernando Tatis. Jr. remains out due to suspension.

San Diego is posting an average of 4.17 runs, ranking them 19th. They have accrued a 4.67 team ERA, placing them 15th.
