Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-5-2023

Los Angeles will try to bounce back from a blowout loss to Seattle when the teams square off in the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon. The Angels notched a 7-3 win on Monday before failing to score until the eighth inning of their blowout loss on Tuesday. Seattle snapped a four-game losing streak with the win and is wrapping up a seven-game homestand.

Los Angeles opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Oakland, but it responded with two consecutive blowout wins to pick up a series victory. The Angels added a 7-3 win against the Mariners on Monday behind home runs from Taylor Ward and Shohei Ohtani. Their offense went ice-cold on Tuesday, failing to score until the ninth inning. Ward had a multi-hit day and right fielder Hunter Renfroe added two hits of his own. The Angels entered Tuesday ranked ninth in the majors in team batting average (.270) and are facing a Seattle pitching staff that was No. 10 (3.52).

Star pitcher Shohei Ohtani will make his second start of the season on Wednesday afternoon. He threw six scoreless innings against Oakland on Opening Day, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out 10. Ohtani struggled with command at times, with only 55 of his 93 pitches being strikes. However, he racked up 13 swinging strikes en route to his 10 strikeouts. Ohtani led Japan to a title in the World Baseball Classic this spring and appears ready to build on his career-best pitching numbers from last season.
