Tampa Bay improved to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history as they won the opening game of this series convincingly Monday night. The Rays entered Tuesday holding the top spot in the AL East, one game ahead of the Yankees in the division race. Against Washington, Tampa Bay got two hits each from Luke Raley (two runs, three RBI), Josh Lowe (run) and Isaac Paredes (two runs, RBI) in the victory. Raley (his first and second) homered twice in the game while Paredes (his first) added a blast of his own. Drew Rasmussen (1-0) earned the win on the mound as he threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Shane McClanahan is on the mound for his second start of the season for Tampa Bay in this contest. He comes in 1-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.833 WHIP, one walk and six strikeouts on the season. McClanahan earned the win in his first start of the season, which came at home on Opening Day against the Tigers Thursday afternoon. He threw six scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a game the Rays won by a 4-0 score. McClanahan didn’t factor in the decision in his lone career start against the Nationals, which came at home on June 9, 2021. He threw three innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in a game the Rays went on to lose 9-7 in 11 innings. In his 55th career major league start, McClanahan pitches at Nationals Park for the first time.
