The Arizona Diamondbacks (2-2, T-1st NL West) visit the San Diego Padres (2-2, T-1st NL West) on Tuesday for an afternoon affair at Petco Park to complete a short two-game series between the two National League West rivals. Arizona defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 on Sunday and split their four game series to open the season with the defending NL pennant winners. San Diego defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Sunday. San Diego split four-game series with Colorado losing the first two and bouncing back with two straight victories. Arizona has six pitchers on its injury list, while San Diego also has pitchers either out or day-to-day. Center fielder Adam Engel is out for the Padres.

 Arizona is 2-2 through the first four games but the Diamondbacks have struggled at the plate and on the mound. Arizona is 25th in team batting average at .197, 25th in runs scored with seven, 29th in on base percentage at .214 and 22nd in slugging percentage at .299. Christian Walker is the stats king to start the season for Arizona with team bests in RBI with two, hits with six and home runs with one. Arizona has hit seven doubles and two home runs but is batting only .197 as a team with a .299 slugging percentage 

 

Arizona struggles on the mound as the Diamondbacks have a 5.29 ERA which is 23rd and a 1.53 WHIP which is 24th. Arizona's pitching staff is allowing opposing hitters to average .230 which is 15th, while the starting rotation has yet to have a Quality Start through four games. Zac Gallen, who wi ll start on Tuesday for Arizona, is the leader in strikeouts with seven. Gallen is 0-1 with an ERA of 9.64, after losing the season opener to Los Angeles 8-2.
