Pittsburgh gave up single runs in the second, third, and fifth innings, and that proved to be the difference in the game. Vince Velasquez gave up all three runs, but the bullpen was fantastic, tossing 4.1 innings of scoreless ball. The relief corps has been very good through the first weekend, posting a 2.53 ERA, and allowing just three runs in 10.2 innings. Johan Oviedo will get the start. Last season, eight of his 21 appearances were starts as he is looking to make himself one of t he starting five. His numbers were good last season, going 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA.

After scoring five runs on opening day, the Pirates produced a combined total of three over the weekend. The team had six hits on Sunday as Bryan Reynolds drove in the only run of the game with his first homer of the year. The team is looking for big things out of Reynolds after a 21-homer season in 2022.
