Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-3-2023

Atlanta will try to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it opens a three-game series in St. Louis on Monday night. The Braves won their first two games of the season before their offense went cold at Washington on Sunday. St. Louis lost to Toronto on Opening Day, but it responded with a pair of victories to win the series.

Atlanta got off to a hot start this season by scoring seven runs in each of its first two games in Washington. The Braves won both of those games by five-plus runs, tacking on three runs in the second inning of the opener and never looking back. They got off to a 4-0 start by the third inning on Saturday en route to a 7-1 win, power by a pair of first-inning home runs from Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson. Marcell Ozuna homered in the fourth inning before Olson added a two-run shot that scored Acuna in the seventh.

The Braves went cold in the series finale on Sunday, recording just four hits in a 4-1 loss. They were a strong offensive team last season, ranked ninth in the majors in batting average (.253). This will be a challenging series for them, as St. Louis ranked tenth in the MLB in ERA (3.79) last year. Veteran catcher Travis d’Arnaud was Atlanta’s best batter over the weekend, going 5 of 9 at the plate and driving in two runs. Right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton will start for Atlanta on Monday. He went 9-6 with a 4.34 ERA during a disappointing 2022 campaign. However, he struck out 200 batters for the fourth straight full season and had a 12-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio during spring training.
