Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-3-2023

The Los Angeles Angels continue their season-opening road trip as they travel to Seattle to take on the Mariners in an AL West showdown. The Angels struggled through much of 2022 and finished well behind both Houston and Seattle in the AL West standings. The Mariners, meanwhile, broke the longest playoff-less drought in sports last season by earning a wildcard spot and upset the Blue Jays over Wildcard Weekend before falling to eventual World Series Champion Houston. The pitching matchup on Monday night will feature Angels' lefty Reid Detmers (7-6, 3.77 in 2022) taking on hard-throwing Seattle righty George Kirby (8-5, 3.39 in 2022). The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST.

The Los Angeles Angels are at the start of what could be a franchise-altering season in 2023 as the team plays on while unsure of the future of star Shohei Ohtani, who is set to become a free agent at season's end. After losing the opener 2-1, the Angels bounced back to score 19 runs over the final two games to take two of three from the Athletics. Ohtani and the team's other superstar, Mike Trout, belted back-to-back home runs on Sunday and rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe added his first big league home run in a 6-0 Angels' win. O'Hoppe now has six RBI through three games, the most ever for an Angels' catcher over the course of three games. Free agent-signee Tyler Anderson picked up his first win in an Angels' uniform after the lefty allowed four hits in six scoreless innings.

The Angels send lefty Detmers to take the mound on Monday night to keep the team's modest two-game winning streak alive. Detmers is 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA in his career during the month of April over the course of four starts. Detmers was 3-3 with an ERA of 4.47 on the road last season in 12 starts. Against the Mariners, Detmers went 2-0 in three starts with an ERA of 2.45. Detmers allowed 13 hits in 14.1 innings of work while striking out 12 and walking five batters.
