The 24-year-old has appeared in seven career games, making two starts. He is 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 22 Ks in 20.1 innings.

Houston s wept its seven-game series with Detroit last season, holding the Tigers to two or fewer runs in six meetings.

The Tigers are off to a poor start, dropping their first three games by a combined score of 21-3. Is Detroit even going to be relevant this year?

The Tigers were shut out on Opening Day, as Rays starter Shane McClanahan blanked Detroit over six innings. Starter Eduardo Rodriguez picked up the loss, surrendering three runs over 5.1 innings. Detroit managed six hits, leaving eight runners on base. They were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

In game two, the Rays' offense broke out for 12 runs, as Spencer Turnbull gave up eight hits and seven runs in 2.1 innings of work. Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers in the scoring column with a two-out RBI but there wasn't too much to celebrate in The D. They left seven runners on base and were 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Things weren't any prettier on Sunday, as Detroit fell 5-1. The Tigers did not record a hit until Riley Greene got on with an infield single in the seventh inning and only put three runners on base all afternoon.

Monday's starter Boyd will look to get back on track after an injury-marred 2022 season with Seattle. It's been 18 months since he last started an MLB game. He is 3-1 in five career starts versus Houston with a 4.82 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
