Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-2-2023

The Chicago White Sox  (1-2) take on the Houston Astros (2-1) in the finale of this American League series from Minute Maid Park on Sunday at 2:10pmET.

Mike Clevinger faces Luis Garcia in a battle of right-handers.

Hope springs eternal and when the White Sox upset Houston 3-2 on opening day on Thursday, the thoughts of an AL Pennant had to get Chicago fans excited. Reality struck in the next two games when the White Sox fell 6-3 on Friday and 6-4 on Saturday to the Astros. Lucas Giolito started off poorly, allowing two runs in the first inning, but wound up giving up just two earned runs in five innings. Joe Kelly came in during the seventh with the game tied at 3-all and allowed one run to get the loss. Yoan Moncada and Seby Zavala went deep for Chicago in the loss.

“I thought I made good pitches in the first inning,” Giolito said to the Chicago Sun-Times after the game.

“They’ve got a good approach, getting the bat to the ball, found a bunch of holes on me.”

The White Sox will send 32-year-old veteran Mike Clevinger to the mound on Sunday. He was 7-7 last season with a 4.33 ERA with San Diego, allowing 20 homers and 102 hits in 114.3 innings (91 Ks). He has not faced the Astros since 2018, when he was with Cleveland.
