San Francisco Giants vs. New York Yankees Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-2-2023

On Sunday, the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees will take the field at Yankee Stadium for the final game of their season-opening series. First pitch from The Bronx is at 1:35 p.m. ET. The Yankees are -150 moneyline favorites and the game total is 7.5 runs scored.

San Francisco will start 33-year-old Ross Stripling. The right-hander went 10-4 with a 3.01 ERA and 1.02 WHIP last season with Toronto. He appeared in 32 games (24 starts), recording 111 strikeouts in 134.1 innings pitched.

New York will send righty Jhony Brito to the mound. He posted a 2.96 ERA with a 91-35 strikeout-walk ratio in 112.2 innings last season with Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 25-year-old is filling the rotation spot vacated by Luis Severino, who is on the 15-day injured list with a low-grade right lat strain

The Yankees beat the Giants 5-0 on Opening Day. Aaron Judge homered on his first swing of the season and Gerrit Cole earned the win, allowing three hits and zero runs in six innings. He also recorded ten Ks.

The Giants' lineup was neutralized by Cole on Thursday, managing only three hits against the Yankees' ace. It wasn't exactly a cakewalk against NY's bullpen either, as SF recorded only one more hit in the final three innings. The Giants left six runners on base and were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

New York got after Webb early with a first-inning Judge home run but didn't score again until the fourth when Gleyber Torres hit a two-run bomb. The 26-year-old gave up four hits and struck out 12 in six innings of work. Taking the long ball out of the equation, it was an otherwise solid start.

Stripling will take the mound on Sunday for San Francisco after signing a two-year, $25 million contract this offseason. The 33-year-old finished in the 98th percentile in walk rate last year and while his strikeout numbers weren't fantastic, he's a dependable middle-of-the-rotation arm. He is 0-5 with a 4.55 ERA, 25 strikeouts, and one save in seven appearances versus the Yanks.

With a fresh face taking the bump for the Yankees on Sunday, the Giants will have to rely on their scouting report to attack the Yankees' starter.
