The Atlanta Braves continued their recent dominance of the Nationals with a win on Opening Day in DC. Travis d'Arnaud led the way with four hits in the DH role, including a two-run double in the ninth inning to give the Braves a healthy cushion in the 7-2 win. All wasn't perfect for the defending NL East champions, however, as NL Cy Young runner-up Max Fried had to leave the game with a strained left hamstring after injuring himself after trying to cover first base on a ground out. Fried will likely miss his next start and end up on the 10-day injured list.
“I'm going to make sure that I'm doing everything I can (so) when I do take that mound again, I'm ready to go,” said Fried, who finished second to Miami's Sandy Alcantara in Cy Young voting last year.
