Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-27-2022

It’s the final week of the preseason in the NFL and that brings us an interconference clash on the gridiron in South Beach. The Philadelphia Eagles are on the road as they travel to face the Miami Dolphins Saturday night. Philadelphia comes in off a narrow 21-20 road victory over Cleveland in their most recent preseason contest Sunday afternoon. Miami was beaten 15-13 at home by Las Vegas in their most recent contest last Saturday to drop them to 1-1 in preseason play. The Dolphins own a 9-6 edge the all-time regular season series and have won the last two meetings, including a 37-31 win at home in the most recent matchup on December 1, 2019.

Philadelphia bounced back from their last-second loss to the Jets in their preseason opener as they managed to hold off the Browns on the road in their second contest to even their preseason record. The Eagles now try to sort out position depth and avoid injuries heading to the regular season. Against Cleveland, the Eagles led 7-0 and 14-7 in the first half only to see the lead trimmed to 14-13 at the half. Trailing 20-14 in the fourth quarter, Philadelphia took the lead for good on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Reid Sinnett to Devon Allen with 3:42 to play in regulation. The Eagles did leave points on the field as they went for it on fourth and goal at the 3-yard line late in the first half only to come up empty. Philadelphia was outgained 403-344 in total offense and gave up 26 first downs while picking up 24 in the game. The Eagles controlled the clock by a 33:08 to 26:52 margin though neither side turned the ball over in the game. < /p>

Jalen Hurts is the clear-cut #1 QB on the depth chart and he was sharp in his action in the preseason, hitting six of six passes for 80 yards plus a score. Gardner Minshew II has completed 22 of 29 throws for 223 yards while adding three carries for 11 yards. Reid Sinnett seems destined to be the #3 QB or a practice squad guy, though he completed 13 of 26 throws for 150 yards plus two scores while adding 19 yards on the ground. Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell (11 carries, 46 yards, TD) and Boston Scott (10 carries, 33 yards, TD) didn’t play much in the first two games, so we’ve saw Jason Huntley (24 carries, 70 yards, TD, four catches, 39 yards) and Kennedy Brooks (13 carries, 42 yards, two catches, five yards, TD) shoulder the load in the run game. Zach Pascal (three catches, 56 yards), Jalen Reagor (five grabs, 43 yards), Deon Cain (six receptions, 80 yards) and Quez Watkins (four catches, 51 yards) are all looking to move up on t he depth chart at receiver. Meanwhile, keep an eye on Noah Togiai (six grabs, 38 yards), Richard Rodgers (two catches, 10 yards) and Jack Stoll (catch, six yards) as they try to solidify a spot on the tight end depth chart behind Dallas Goedert. Jake Elliott has hit all six extra point attempts without trying a field goal in the preseason.
