Both fighters enter UFC on ESPN 43 after suffering knockout losses in their last outing, respectively. Chidi Njokuani was knocked out by Gregory Rodrigues in Round 2 at UFC Vegas 60, while Albert Duraev also suffered a second-round TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Austin.
Keeping that in mind, I see Njokuani bouncing back in San Antonio. It's important to remember that he had knocked out four consecutive opponents ahead of his latest loss, defeating the likes of Marc-Andre Barriault and Dusko Todorovic over that stretch. Meanwhile, Duraev has only beaten Roman Kopylov and Caio Bitencourt during his UFC tenure – hardly the stiffest competition.
Duraev is going to try to take things to the mat, but Njokuani's 75% takedown defense should keep him on his feet. The latter also averages 4.28 significant strikes per minute with 72% accuracy. A barrage like that might be too much for Duraev to handle after Buckley knocked him down twice on just 27 strikes.
Duraev is talented, but Njokuani has more going for him. Don't be surprised if "Chidi Bang Bang" finishes another foe this weekend.
