San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-24-2022

Pitching Matchup

San Francisco: Logan Webb (RHP) 11-6, 3.06 ERA

Detroit: Matt Manning (RHP) 0-1, 2.81 ERA

The San Francisco Giants have been struggling but are a handful of games out of the NL Wild Card spot. Young righty Logan Webb will get the pill here as he is coming off a losing effort against the Arizona Diamondbacks and allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits with three walks and failed to record a single strikeout.

The Detroit Tigers were expecting to compete this season and the only thing they are competing for is the worst record in baseball. Young right-hander < span style="font-weight: 400">Matt Manning got the ball and lost to the Los Angeles Angels as he threw seven innings and gave up one run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

The San Francisco Giants have been less than stellar offensively in the last month of action as they are 20th in the sport with a .683 OPS while scoring 3.7 runs per game. Outfielder Joc Pederson has been hitting well this year as he has posted an .819 OPS with 18 homers and 48 RBI while swiping three bases over the course of the season. He’s been hitting extremely well in his previous 15 games as he has a .325/.372/.500 slashline with a home run, five RBI, and a 1:6 walk-to-strikeout ratio during those games.

Logan Webb has been pitching pretty well this season when diving into his Baseball Savant page as he is in the 77th percentile in barrel percentage, 67th percentile in walk percentage, 64th percentile in chase rate, and 58th percentile in xSLG. He has a four-pitch arsenal (slider, changeup, sinker, fas tball) and his changeup has been his go-to pitch to get outs as it has a .201 batting average and 55 strikeouts. Webb has never faced this Detroit Tigers lineup before so it should be a good test for the youngster.
