The Montreal Canadiens (26-34-4-2, 37-29 PL, 29-33 O/U) meet with the Pittsburgh Penguins (34-22-9-1, 28-38 PL, 29-32 O/U) in an Eastern Conference showdown on Tuesday night. The Canadiens lost to the Devils on Saturday and host the Avalanche on Monday. The Penguins recorded a home win against the Rangers on Sunday. The Canadiens lead the season series 2-0.

The Montreal Canadiens open a three-game road trek. Montreal continues to stumble late this season. They have lost six consecutive games entering Monday night’s game against the Avalanche. Montreal is decimated with injuries to several key players and has been reasonably competitive when considering the injuries. They took the Hurricanes and Rangers to overtime last week. Montreal is 3-5-2 in their last ten games. 

Nick Suzuki has been quiet, recording only two points in six games played this month. The 23-year-old center is having a productive season, netting 21 goals along with 28 assists. He has four points in two games against the Penguins. Kirby Dach is dealing with a lower-body injury and is questionable. The 22-year-old center has 35 points on the season. Josh Anderson only has three points this month. The 28-year-old winger does have a solid 19 goals but only eight assists. Cole Caufield remains out of action. Sean Monahan and Arbur Xhekaj also remain out.

The Canadiens are sharing the duties in the net between Sam Montembault and Jake Allen. Montembault has been decent, posting a 3.28 GAA and a respectable .905 save % while Allen has a 3.31 GAA and an .899 save %. Montreal is scoring an average of 2.7 goals, ranking them 28th. They are allowing an average of 3.5 goals, pegging them 25th in the NHL.
