The 2022-23 NHL season goes on with an 11-game Thursday card and brings this Eastern Conference New York Rangers and the Montréal Canadiens at the Bell Centre in Montréal, Québec at 7:00 p.m. ET.
This is the third meeting between these teams this season, with the road team winning each of the first two contests. The New York Rangers began a four-game road trip in Boston on Saturday, falling to the Bruins, 4-2. It was the second loss for New York and the sixth in the last eight games for the team who find themselves clinging to the third spot in the Metropolitan Division standings. The Rangers are 18-8-5 on the road.
The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Alexis Lafreniere cut the deficit in half at 7:03 in the second. After the Bruins scored two more goals, Lafreniere scored his second goal of the night and now has 13 on the season. Patrick Kane was held off the scoresheet for the second time since joining the Rangers. New York is 13th in goals per game (3.27) and 10t h on the power-play (22.8%).

Igor Shesterkin (27-11-7, 2.67, .909) stopped 20 of 24 shots in the loss and now has allowed at least four goals in five of his last seven starts, allowing 25 total goals during that span. New York is 11th in goals allowed per game (2.81) and is 16th in penalty killing (79.3%). However, their penalty killing has been atrocious of late, giving up nine goals in their last 29 chances, killing off just 68.9%.
