The Nashville Predators are on the road as they make the trip to face the Arizona Coyotes Thursday night. Nashville was beaten 4-3 in a shootout on the road by Vancouver in their previous game Monday night. Arizona whipped St. Louis by a 6-2 count at home Tuesday night in their most recent contest. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Predators own a 5-4-1 advantage. In the most recent matchup, it was Nashville skating off with a 6-2 road win on February 26.

Nashville dropped to 5-1-1 in their last seven games as they were beaten in a shootout on the road by Vancouver Monday night in their previous contest. The Predators dropped to 31-23-7 on the season and entered Wednesday fifth in the Central Division, 12 points behind the Stars for the top spot. They were seven points behind the Avalanche for the final guaranteed playoff spot and six behind the Jets for the second wild card spot. Nashville is 25th in the league in goals per game as they put up an average of 2.85 goals per contest this season. The Predators are 12th in goals against by allowing an average of 2.90 goals per game on the year. Nashville is tied for 23rd in the league in power play success as they cash in on 19% of their chances with the man advantage. The Predators are tied for 10th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate through 81.5% of their shorthanded situations this sea son.

Against Vancouver, Nashville was able to procure a point but couldn’t get the other as they were bested in the shootout by the Canucks. The Predators held a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period but skated to the locker room at the first intermission trailing 2-1. Just 27 seconds after falling behind 1-0, Colton Sissons brought the Predators even with his 11th goal of the year at 4:55 off assists from Cole Smith and Jeremy Lauzon. The Predators gave up a goal later in the period to trail after 20 minutes. In the second period, Nashville held a 12-9 edge in shots on goal with neither team denting the twine, keeping the score 2-1 after 40 minutes. The third period saw the Predators hold a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal and a 2-1 advantage on the scoreboard to knot the game at three at the end of regulation. After giving up a goal to trail 3-1, Luke Evangelista scored his first career NHL goal at 8:31 to make it a 3-2 game. Kiefer Sherwood and Lauzon drew the assists on the marker. Evangelista struck again for his second of the night, the season and his career, at 16:55 off an assist from Tyson Barrie, to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the extra session, Nashville was outshot 4-0 with neither side scoring, sending things on to the shootout. The Canucks’ Elias Pettersson tallied the lone goal in the shootout to send the Predators to defeat. Juuse Saros made 26 saves for the Predators, who held a 32-29 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. He’s expected to be between the pipes again here.
