It’s the opening day of the Pac-12 Tournament with a first-round matchup on the hardwood in the city that never sleeps. The ninth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes are the “road” team as they take on the eighth-seeded Washington Huskies in an effort to play another day Wednesday afternoon. Colorado closed the regular season with a 69-60 win over Utah at home Saturday, covering the line as a 3.5-point favorite. Washington was knocked off 93-84 at home by Washington State Thursday night, failing to cover as a one-point underdog, in their previous game. In the all-time series between the teams, the Huskies own a 21-14 advantage and have won the last three meetings, including a 75-72 road win in the most recent matchup on January 19.

Colorado had dropped three straight and four of their previous five before taking down Utah at home in their regular season finale. The Buffaloes enter this game 16-15 overall and they were 8-12 in conference play on the year. Against Utah, Colorado trailed by one early on before going on a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 lead with 11:35 to play in the first half and never trailed again. The Buffaloes were up 12 at the half and never let the lead drop below six in the second half, with that coming in the final minute of play. Colorado shot 46.3% from the floor, including eight of 21 from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle 39-33. Tristan da Silva and Julian Hammond III each had 15 points to lead the way for the Buffaloes in the win.

For the season, the Buffaloes are averaging 69.9 points per game to date, putting them 218th in the nation in scoring offense. Colorado is averaging 37.6 rebounds per contest and they dish out an average of 12.9 assists a night on the year. The Buffaloes are above average on the defensive end of the floor as they surrender an average of 66.3 points per contest this year, putting them 70th in the nation in scoring defense. Tristan da Silva leads the Buffaloes with 15.9 points plus 4.9 rebounds per game this season. KJ Simpson (15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists) and J’Vonne Hadley (eight points, 5.9 rebounds) are good secondary scoring options. Nique Clifford, Julian Hammond III, Javon Ruffin, Luke O’Brien, Jalen Gabbidon, Lawson Lovering and Ethan Wright are solid rotation pieces for Colorado. The Buffaloes are shooting 43.2% from the field as a team on the year. Colorado is knocking down an average of 6.5 three-pointers a night while shooting 31.6% from beyond the arc. The Buffaloes are sputtering at the free throw line as they knock down 69.1% of their attempts on the season.
