The St. Louis Cardinals (69-51, 68-52 RL, 57-59-4 O/U) battle the Chicago Cubs (52-68, 62-58 RL, 52-59-9 O/U) in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader from Wrigley Field. The Cardinals will have Adam Wainwright on the mound, targeting his tenth win of the season. The Cubs will reply with rookie Javier Assad. The Cardinals lead the season series 7-4.

The Cards will have Adam Wainwright on the bump in game one of the DH. Wainwright was outstanding in his previous start, tossing seven shutout innings against the Rockies, and collected the win to improve his record to 9-8. The veteran right-hander continues to contain his foes, sporting a 2.33 ERA this month and has reported a 3.11 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 150.1 innings pitched on the season. Wainwright has held the Cubs to only two runs in 14 innings this season and is 18-13 with a 3.88 ERA in his career against the rivals.

The Cardinals are taking control of the NL Central. They have built a large four-game lead ahead of the Brewers. The squad has won seven games overall including a series win against Milwaukee in that span. They issued the three-game sweep in Arizona last weekend, scoring 27 runs.

Nolan Arenado loves playing against the Cubs. The slugger is hitting .302 with eight RBIs and a strong .863 OPS against the rivals. The 31-year-old slugger now has 25 big flies with 81 RBIs and a dazzlong .917 OPS. Arenado has accumulated a whopping 21 RBIs on the month. 

The Cardinals are scoring an average of 4.88 runs per game, ranking them seventh overall. The pitching staff has recorded a 3.82 team ERA, placing them 12th in the big leagues.
