The Carolina Hurricanes are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night. Carolina comes in off a 6-0 demolition of Tampa Bay at home Sunday afternoon in their previous game. Montreal battled but ended up a goal short for the third straight game as they were beaten 4-3 on the road by Vegas Sunday night. Carolina won their second straight game as they pummeled Tampa Bay at home Sunday afternoon. The Hurricanes entered Monday 41-12-8 and held a two-point lead over the Devils for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division standings. Carolina stands 7th in goals per game as they put up 3.43 goals per contest on the year. The Hurricanes are second in goals against by allowing an average of 2.49 goals per night. Carolina stands 13th in power play success as they cash in on 22% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Hurricanes are tied for 2nd in the league in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 83.3% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Tampa Bay, Carolina used suffocating play in the defensive zone and got their offense going to blank the Lightning. In the opening period, the Hurricanes held a 12-4 advantage in shots on go al and they took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes of action. Andrei Svechnikov gave Carolina the lone goal they would need with his 22nd of the year at 6:30, unassisted, to give them a 1-0 advantage. Teuvo Teravainen made it a 2-0 game with his eighth goal of the year, on the power play, at 17:13 off assists from Shayne Gostisbehere and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. In the second period, Carolina held an 11-0 shot advantage and outscored Tampa Bay 2-0 to take a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes. Teravainen scored his second of the night and ninth of the year to make it 3-0 at 11:57 off assists from Martin Necas and Kotkaniemi. Gostisbehere extended to a 4-0 margin for the Hurricanes with his 12th goal of the year, on the power play, at 15:50 off assists from Necas and Kotkaniemi. In the third period, Carolina held a 15-10 shot edge and outscored Tampa Bay 2-0 to seal the win. Teravainen capped his hat trick with his third of the night and 10th of the y ear, on the power play, at 11:03 with assists going to Gostisbehere and Kotkaniemi. Later in the period, Kotkaniemi closed the scoring with his 12th of the season at 16:34, on the power play, with Brent Burns and Necas assisting on the margin. Frederik Andersen made 14 saves for the shutout win for Carolina, who held a 38-14 edge in shots on goal. He’s expected to get the start in goal here.
