Northwestern vs. Rutgers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-5-2023

Two teams that appear headed for the Big Dance meet Sunday night in the Big Ten regular season finale as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights host the Northwestern Wildcats. The Scarlet Knights are 18-12 overall and 10-9 in the Big Ten while the Wildcats are 20-10 overall and 11-8 in the conference. Rutgers beat Northwestern, at Northwestern, 65-62 and covered back in January. Tipoff for this one is at 7:30 p.m. EST at the RAC in Piscataway, NJ.

This has been one of the best seasons for Northwestern in a long time. They come into this game with a record of 20-10 overall and 11-8 in the Big Ten. They are in a 6 team logjam for second place in the Big Ten and they have had a golden opportunity to be ahead of that pack, But the problem is, they have not taken advantage of it, stumbling as of late. The Wildcats come into this game having lost three straight — one at Illinois and one at Maryland, two teams they are tied with.

But the real disappointing loss came Wednesday as they fell at home to Penn State 68-65 in overtime as a 4 point favorite. They look to have a tourney berth locked up, but nothing can be taken for granted. And they need this one to get a higher seed in the Big Ten tournament. In the loss to Penn State, the Wildcats shot well from three, making 12 of 29, but only shot 37% overall. Boo Buie led Northwestern with 20 points, 8 assists, 3 steals, and 5 rebounds. Brooks Barnhizer chipped in with 19 points and 7 rebounds with 5 three pointers while Ty Berry added 10 points.
