The Troy Trojans play against the James Madison Dukes in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Saturday in Pensacola, Florida at the Pensacola Bay Center. Troy reached the quarterfinals by defeating Arkansas State on Thursday night 63-59 for its third consecutive win and seventh in the last eight. James Madison reached the quarterfinals via a bye after finishing the regular season 4th in the Sun Belt at 21-10 overall and 12-6 in conference play. James Madison finished the regular season winning four of its last five. Both teams are injury free.
Troy held Arkansas State to just 59 points in its second round victory over the Red Wolves on Thursday. Arkansas State was held to 44.2% shooting and Troy gave up only five offensive rebounds to the Red Wolves therefore Arkansas State had limited second look opportunities. On the season, Troy held opponents to an average of 66.8 points per game and 42.3% shooting. Troy averaged 34.9 rebounds per game led by Zay Williams with an average of 7.2 boards for a contest. Williams swatted an average of 0.8 shots per game and Nelson Phillips was the leader in steals with an average of 2.1 per game.
Troy scored only 63 points in its victory over Arkansas State but on the season averaged 73.5 points per game while shooting 44.6% overall and 32.4% from behind the line. Williams was the leading scorer in the victory over Arkansas Sta te with 15 points and Phillips was the only other player that scored in double figures for Troy with 13 points. Williams was the leading scorer with an average of 12.2 points per game while three others scored between 10.6 and 11.6 points per game. Christyon Eugene was the leader in assists with an average of 2.7 dishes per contest.
