Seton Hall will wrap up a tremendously disappointing end to the regular season when it travels to No. 20 Providence on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates have played their way out of the NCAA Tournament picture by losing five of their last six games, including a 76-72 setback against Villanova on Tuesday. Providence has dropped two of its last three games and is coming off its first home loss of the season.
Seton Hall won seven out of eight games from early January to early February, beating then-No. 15 UConn during that stretch. None of the Pirates’ other wins during that hot stretch were particularly impressive though, but they were still on track for an NCAA Tournament berth with a 15-9 (8-5 Big East) record. They have essentially eliminated any chance of an at-large bid with five losses in their last six games, with their lone loss coming against last-place Georgetown on Feb. 14. Seton Hall has dropped consecutive games to UConn, Xavier and Villanova since then. It came up short in a 71-67 loss to Providence in mid-December in the first meeting between these teams.

The Pirates have been without starting point guard Kadary Richmond for the last two games due to a back injury. He ranks third on the team in scoring (10.1) and second in rebounding (5.2), and he is questionable to play on Saturday. Richmond scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the first meeting with Providence. The Pirates have been an awful offensive team, ranked No. 278 in effective field goal percentage and No. 315 in turnover rate. They are facing a Providence defense that is No. 86 in adjusted efficiency. Senior guard Al-Amir Dawes leads Seton Hall with 12.7 points per game, while senior forward Tyrese Samuel is adding 10.9 points and 5.7 boards.
