Northern Iowa took down ninth-seeded Illinois State 75-62 in their first-round matchup Thursday afternoon, covering the line as a 3.5-point favorite. Bradley closed the regular season with a 73-61 win over Drake at home to secure the MVC regular season crown, covering the line as a 3.5-point favorite, Sunday night. In the all-time series between the teams, the Panthers own a 36-35 advantage but the Braves took both meetings this season. That includes a 77-69 road win in the most recent matchup on February 4.

Northern Iowa dropped eight of nine to close the regular season but played solid basketball to dispatch Illinois State in their first-round matchup Thursday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 14-17 overall with the victory and now try to pull an upset win over Bradley in the quarterfinals. Against Illinois State, Northern Iowa trailed by two with 11:35 to play in the first half but outscored the Redbirds 30-12 the rest of the half to take a 44-28 advantage. The Panthers pushed their lead to 20 with 15:29 remaining and didn’t let the Redbirds closer than six the rest of the way to secure the victory. Northern Iowa shot 46.6% from the field, including nine of 28 from three-point range, and forced 17 turnovers in the game. Bowen Born led the Panthers with 23 points and five assists in the win.

For the season, Northern Iowa is putting up an average of 70.3 points per contest, putting them 217th in the nation in scoring offense. The Panthers collect an average of 32.9 rebounds per game and dish out 11.7 assists per contest. Northern Iowa has been average on the defensive end of the floor as they allow an average of 69.9 points a game this season, putting them 190^th in scoring defense.
