California schools will clash again in the Big West, with the Long Beach State Beach (16-14, 11-17-0 ATS, 10-8 Big West) going for a season sweep when they host the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (10-19, 12-15-0 ATS, 6-12 Big West). The first meeting between these schools saw the Beach control the entire second half en route to a 10-point victory. Long State Beach (LBSU) entered as 6.0-point favorites, and it was their third straight over Cal State Bakersfield (CSUB). This game is set to take place in Walter Pyramid and tip off at 10:00 p.m. EST on Thursday.
The Roadrunners will play their final two games away from the comfort of Bakersfield, and they'll begin the stretch on a three-game losing streak. They came close to besting Cal State Fullerton on Saturday but fell in overtime by four. They managed to beat the spread at least, led by a strong shooting night and domination on the glass. Travis Henson's 22 points and season-high four assists led the team.
20-point performances are blessings for CSUB's offense, which puts up 61.7 points per game. Even though they shoot a respectable 34.4% from three, their team field goal percentage is only 42.2%. They make their free throws count at least, hitting 76.6% of them, the 26th-highest percentage in the nation.
Assisted by a very slow tempo, the Roadrunners hold opponents to 64.9 points per contest. Their foes shoot 34.3% from beyond the arc and 42.9% from the field. They put opposing players at the line frequently though, allowing 20.9 free throw attempts a night.
CSUB is ranked 289th by KenPom, a number only ahead of two teams in the Big West. They've struggled on the road especially, entering this game with a 3-10 record in away games. It's been a season to forget for the Roadrunners.
