Texas vs. TCU Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-1-2023

The TCU Horned Frogs play host to the Texas Longhorns in an in-state showdown on Wednesday night between Big 12 foes. The Longhorns are coming in off a loss on the road over the weekend, as they continue the road trip into Wednesday night. For TCU, they won in their own right on Saturday, as they hope to carry that back home. In the first meeting between these two back in January, the Longhorns skirted by with a four-point win, and the rematch expects to be a tight matchup as well.

Texas has put together a nice stretch to close the season but after losing to Baylor the last time out, they'll have their work cut out to grab a win on the road in this one. The Longhorns have a losing record on the season on the road, sitting at 4-5 in true road games, only making matters more concerning for this mid-week showdown. The first meeting saw Texas barely come out on top and that matchup was on their own home court. Having to shift to the road, after already playing on the road during the weekend, is bound to cause problems. Texas has plenty of depth but with eight wins in the last ten meetings with the Horned Frogs, they'll look to draw confidence from that.

The Longhorns will be happy that they continue to navigate the schedule without injuries to worry about. Rowan Brumbaugh redshirted to start the season but Texas doesn't carry any injuries into Wednesday's matchup. Depth is likely to be a major advantage in this one.

Texas has taken a turn on the offensive side of things and after putting up over 70 points in the first meeting between these two teams, they'll feel good about replicating that performance. They rank 26th nationally in scoring and 35th in field goal percentage, though their three-point struggles are likely to be exposed in this one. Marcus Carr (16.8 ppg, 4.1 apg) has come on strong in year two with the program, while Sir'Jabari Rice (12.1 ppg) has grown as his freshman year has gone on. With plenty of experience behind those two, Texas has the luxury of having plenty of avenues to go down for scoring. Defensively, Texas will like their chances to see a TCU roster that could be without some of their own key scorers.
