The San Antonio Spurs are on the road as they play the second game of a two-game road set with the Utah Jazz Tuesday night. These teams met on Saturday night with the Jazz taking a 118-102 home victory to square the season series at a game apiece. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Spurs own a 111-89 advantage but the Jazz have won six of the last nine meetings heading into this contest. San Antonio dropped their 16th straight game as they were beaten in the opening game of this two-game set Saturday night with the Jazz. The Spurs dropped to 14-47 on the season and stand fourth in the Southwest Division, 23 games behind the Grizzlies for the top spot. They were 14th in the West, 28.5 games behind the Nuggets for the top spot, 17.5 games behind the Mavericks for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 16 games behind the Pelicans for a spot in the play-in tournament. Against Utah, San Antonio led by as many as 14 in the opening quarter, by nine after the opening quarter and by 10 at the half before things fell apart. The second half was a completely different story as the Spurs were outscored 63-37 to wind up losing by double digits. San Antonio shot 39.2% from the floor, including nine of 34 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 56-41. Jeremy Sochan led the Spurs with 22 points and six r ebounds in the loss.

For the year, the Spurs are 25th in the league in scoring offense as they average 112.3 points per game on the year. San Antonio is 16th in rebounding by grabbing 43 boards a night while they are fifth in the league in assists by handing out 26.9 dimes per contest. The Spurs are 30th in the league in scoring defense as they give up an average of 122.9 points per game. Keldon Johnson leads the team with 21.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season. Devin Vassell (19.4 points), Tre Jones (12.8 points, 6.3 assists) and Doug McDermott (10.2 points) each are valuable secondary options. Zach Collins (10.2 points, six boards), Keita Bates-Diop, Blake Wesley, Jeremy Sochan, Romeo Langford, Devonte’ Graham, Isaiah Roby, Khem Birch and Gorgui Dieng are other rotation pieces for coach Gregg Popovich. San Antonio is 21st in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.8 % from the floor on the year. The Spurs are 28th in threes per game as they connect on 10.5 triples a night while they are 25th in three-point percentage by shooting 34% from beyond the arc.

Vassell (knee) had surgery and last played January 2 against the Nets. He has no timetable for return at this point. Langford (adductor) hasn’t taken the floor since January 23 and has no timetable for return. Birch (knee) hasn’t played since being acquired from Toronto and is expected back perhaps in early March. Jones (foot) has missed the last four games while Roby (ankle) has missed the last three heading into this game. Watch for updates to see if they will take the floor in this contest.
